One False Move (Mike Delaney Thrillers Prequel)
Author: David Callinan
4.5 out of 5 stars
When Mike Delaney receives a frantic phone call from his best friend’s wife, he rushes to Chicago to help. Delaney’s best friend, Bob, and Bob’s daughter have been abducted. After receiving a ransom video, Mike realizes an old enemy is after revenge. Will Mike find Bob and his daughter in time?
Overall, the writing was good. There were some detailed descriptions, and there was a good fight scene. With less than 30 pages, the story has a fast pace, but it’s almost too fast. Another five pages would have improved it. The story also gives just enough background information that readers who have not read anymore of the series will not be confused about anything, although I did still have some questions.
Delaney is a very interesting character. He’s part of an order of monks called The Brothers of Light. He also used to be an assassin for the government. He and Bob are best friends and work on investigations together, and Delaney is very close with Bob’s family. Bob is in a wheelchair, but he doesn’t let that stop him as he has weapons built into his wheelchair.
The story isn’t great, there were some things I would have liked given more attention, but it’s a good introduction to the characters and did get me interested in reading more from the series. So I decided to rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars. You should read it if you’re looking for a short action thriller.
