The Wantland Files by Lara Bernhardt

The Wantland Files (The Wantland Files #2)

Author: Lara Bernhardt

4.5 out of 5 stars

Medium Kimberly Wantland is the host of the TV show, The Wantland Files. For the season finale, she and her team are investigating a case involving the ghost of a cat. But as the investigation begins, they realize that somethings far more dangerous is targeting the family.

Kimberly is then disgruntled to learn that she is going to have a co-host. Sterling Wakefield is a skeptic who hosts a show about debunking the paranormal. They quickly clash, but as the investigation continues, will they see a different side to each other?

The plot was interesting and had some good twists. The writing was really good. It had a good pace and flow, and I was easily drawn into the story. It wasn’t particularly descriptive, but it was enough for me to be able to picture what was happening.

The characters were all well written and realistic. I generally liked all of them, but I didn’t feel very attached to any of them. Very little was revealed about any of their pasts. There were a few intriguing hints about Kimberly’s and Sterling’s pasts that did make me want to read more. I liked Kim. The story is from her perspective, so we know how much she cares and how much she wants to help people. I was left with questions about her past and her abilities, like did she have them from childhood? Sterling comes across as an obnoxious jerk, but he eventually did show a different side to himself, and by the end of the story he had grown on me a bit. I did find Kimberly and Sterlings’ interactions and where they ended up at the end of the book to be realistic.

This book is right up my alley, so I did really enjoy it. There were a few things I thought could have been better, but I’m still rating it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
