Light Parade by Shelley Coriell

Light Parade: A Detective Lottie King Holiday Mystery (Detective Lottie King Mysteries series)

Author: Shelley Coriell

5 out of 5 stars

Retired Detective Lottie King is enjoying her time helping her granddaughter’s Girl Power Troop get ready to be in the town’s Fantasy of Lights Parade. After running to her car for a sewing kit, she happens to overhear a conversation between two men about a bomb that has been planted on the parade route. Working with the police, she has less than an hour to figure out where the bomb is.

Despite being under 40 pages long, this is still a suspenseful story. It has a fast but steady pace, and also manages to have more than one twist. Despite the suspense, there were also some funny moments. For example, when the bomber is described, Lottie sums it up by thinking that he looks like an arrogant Jesus.

Lottie immediately comes across as tough and determined. When the police agree to let her work with them, it’s obvious that she’s well known and well respected. She’s also a loving mother and grandmother. I really liked her and would read the series about her.

I really liked this short story, and it was more suspenseful than I expected it to be from the length. There was nothing I disliked, so I’m rating it 5 out of 5 stars. If you’re looking for something quick to read during the holiday season and want some action and suspense, than you should definitely read this one.
