Zero Hour (Order of the Dragon prequel)
Author: Tina Glasneck
2.5 out of 5 stars
After her father’s death, Leslie is desperate to see him again to say a proper goodbye. When she happens to find a grimoire that has a spell to raise the dead, she decides to try it. What she doesn’t know is the by using the grimoire, she’s sent out a beacon to every vampire in the world, summoning them to her. Also alerted is the Order of the Dragon. They keep mortals from finding out about their existence. The head of the order, Alistair, sends his nephew, Killian, to find the person who used the grimoire and keep the vampires away from them. Can Killian reach in her time before the vampires attack her?
I didn’t think much of this short story. The writing could have been better. The narrative and the characters’ thoughts often jumped all over the place. The plot was fine, but except for a few bits, it wasn’t anything special.
The characters were okay, but not a lot of their personality is revealed. Killian is a wolf-hybrid who is committed to his work for the Order of the Dragon. Leslie is a writer who can see ghosts and has some magical ability. I do wish there had been more detail about her strained relationship with her father.
For plot and characterization, I think this book would have benefited from about 20 more pages. There were so many things that I had a problem with in this story that I rated it 2.5 out of 5 stars. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, but if the plot interests you, it’s short and you can get it for free if you want to give it a try.
